Matiang'i out of the country for 2 weeks for routine private matter-Lawyers
Danstan Omari,
the lawyer representing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, has
clarified the motive behind his client's trip to the United Kingdom amid probe by security agencies.
This is after
a few reports claimed that there is something sinister around Matiang'i's
travel since he is under probe by the
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Corruption Commission (EACC).
In a rebuttal on Wednesday, Omari stated that the reports are casting "unfair aspersions" on his client and the matter should instead , be scrutinized soberly before being made public.
He further
stated that the reports are "clearly stage-managed wars and evidently
driven by inexplicable vendetta and malice."
According to Omari, Matiang'i travelled to the UK on Sunday, February 19, aboard KLM (Passenger) Flight KL 566 and had
even made known to the senior security sectors.
Omari
clarified that his client is there to attend to an urgent private family matter, in private capacity.
"I have
instructions that my client informally notified senior security sector and
diplomatic officials about his two (2) week trip to the UK. It is therefore
unfair to cast aspersions on his movement," said Omari.
" Those
familiar with his travel schedules over time will confirm that he travels
regularly to that part of the world via KLM and — as was in this case — very openly,
through open public means."
On the ongoing
probe, Omari claimed that his client was not aware of any investigations against
him but he welcomes any action by officers as is their constitutional mandate.
