Lavington residents protest erection of high-rise apartments

A file image of apartment blocks under construction in Nairobi's Kilimani area in April 2023. There has been an increase in the number of new high-rise blocks in the area as well as the neighbouring Kileleshwa and Lavington districts.
Residents
of Nairobi’s Lavington neighbourhood on Monday protested the erection of high-rise
apartments in the area.
The
locals used the ‘Green Holiday’ given by the government for the nationwide
tree-planting exercise to plant trees against tall buildings.
They
complained that the area has of late seen a concerning increase in the number
of tall apartment blocks which they said are being built contrary to directives
issued earlier.
Led
by Jeremy Moses, they called on property developers to consider the need for
environmental conservation when putting up buildings.
The residents
further pledged to ensure trees in the neighbourhood are not cut down further.
