Land fraudsters arrested inside DCI headquarters as they attempted to bribe officer
The duo who DCI believes is part of a well-organized land-grabbing cartel, was arrested at the DCI Mazingira Complex premises on Thursday following a daring bribery attempt.
According to the DCI, Mwangi and Macharia walked into the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) offices in a bid to sway an investigating officer handling a case involving their attempt to seize a 0.2026 hectares parcel of land in the Thome V area.
For the favour, Macharia is said to have placed Ksh.200,000 on the table as a tip to the officer, all the while unaware that they were being monitored.
"You can then take us to court any time in March. We will know how to handle it there," the duo said according to the DCI.
They were immediately arrested and the bribe was taken as an exhibit.
DCI explained that the two are persons of interest in a land-grabbing case that occurred on January 18, 2023. Jackson is alleged to have impersonated the Deputy OCS Karen Police Station and grabbed the land of one Richard Hooper's in Karen.
The matter is still pending in court.
