Lamu teachers raise alarm over pupils found blowing used condoms

Victims of terror attacks from Salama and Juhudi villages have been pitching camp at the school, where they seek refuge at night.

The refugees have been throwing litter in the school compound, among them used condoms. 

As a safety precaution, the teachers in Juhudi School pick up the litter every morning. 

“There is a time we found a pupil blowing a used condom, saying it was a balloon,” says Raphael Mutinda, a teacher in Juhudi primary school. 

“The children do not know the negative effects, especially those in lower grades. They think they are balloons, when you snatch it from them they wonder why you are doing it,” another teacher adds. 

The teachers have asked persons seeking refuge in the school to be responsible in disposing off litter.
