Fishermen in Lake Victoria want governors whose counties are bordering the Lake region to engage the national government to end the constant conflict between Kenyan fishermen and neighboring states.

According to Tom Guda, the Chairman of Lake Victoria Beach Management Unit, the frequent conflict and attacks on Kenyan fishermen using Lake Victoria by Ugandan and Tanzanian security agencies is a big threat to the lives of fishermen.

Speaking in Homa Bay Town, Guda accused the government of taking too long to address security challenges fishermen have been experiencing from the neighboring countries.

Guda asked governors from the Lake region to work with the national government on a permanent solution to avert the attacks where Kenyan fishermen are harassed by Ugandan authority.

He said that engaging the neighboring countries is the only solution to bring to an end constant attack and harassment of Kenyan fishermen while on a fishing expedition in waters of Lake Victoria.

On the other hand, Guda wants action to be taken against private developers whom they are accusing for grabbing riparian lands along the beaches for their own benefits.
