Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has acknowledged his appointment as chairperson of the Raila Odinga 2022 Campaign board ahead of the August General Election.

Governor Muriithi, however, pointed out that his appointment to Odinga's campaign team would not deter him from defending his seat which he will be contesting on a PNU ticket.

The governor said his support for Raila Odinga should not be misconstrued to mean that he had joined ODM, but, observed that the former Prime Minister will be vying for the presidency as a coalition partner.

Muriithi noted that his support for the former PM was well thought out, describing Mr. Odinga as a visionary and consistent leader.

He spoke at Nyahururu town where he called on Kenyans to rally their support for the ODM party leader and seek peace and unity ahead of the upcoming polls.

The first-time governor, who won his Laikipia Governor seat as an independent candidate, is expected to bring enormous experience into Odinga's campaign planning from the private sector.

He is currently the Finance, Planning and Economic Affairs Committee chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG) a position he has held since January 2021.

Muriithi said his excellent leadership and management skills have made him a darling to many who have also on several occasions fronted his name as a possible running mate to Raila Odinga, although he has made it public that he was only interested in defending his seat.

Also appointed alongside Mureithi was Elizabeth Meyo who takes up the position of Secretary and CEO to the Raila campaign board.

Meyo is currently a consultant to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has wide administrative and strategic experience under her belt.

She is also a former Commissioner of the Domestic Taxes Department at Kenya Revenue Authority.
