It’s all systems go for the long-awaited United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations scheduled for Thursday as aspirants make their final rounds ahead of the primaries.

In Laikipia West, aspirants urged voters to turn out in large numbers and support their bids to fly the UDA flags ahead of the August 9 General Election.

A Spot check by Citizen TV within the area revealed that politicians were ecstatic that the nomination day had finally arrived.

They expressed their optimism that the party primaries will be conducted in a peaceful and fair manner without any incidents of violence or intimidation.

Onesmus Karenge, a Laikipia West Parliamentary aspirant and Irene Wachuka, an Igwamiti Ward MCA aspirant, called on the government to beef up security, especially in areas that have continued to experience cases of insecurity occasioned by bandits so that residents can be able to exercise their constitutional right during the party primaries.

Laikipia West UDA coordinator Nancy Nkatha likewise stated that plans for the nomination process were already in place while assuring aspirants and residents of a fair and peaceful process.

MP Didmus Barasa, who is the Laikipia County elections monitor, was on Wednesday overseeing the preparedness of UDA nominations that will take place on Thursday.
