A Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) Chief Inspector who went missing last August in Uyoma, Siaya County was among the 26 people whose bodies were dumped in River Yala.

DNA results on Thursday morning confirmed Francis Oyaro’s body, after matching samples collected from his mother last week.

Oyaro’s family previously visited the Yala Sub-County morgue to identify their kin but were unable because at the time bodies had decomposed beyond recognition.

His identification brings to 12 the total number of bodies positively identified after being retrieved from River Yala in what is believed to have been a series of extrajudicial killings.

Oyaro had been missing since August 28 when he was travelling from Marsabit to Nairobi aboard a KWS vehicle.

Oyaro's family, led by his brother John Oyaro, are urging government agencies to fast-track efforts to unearth the truth about the killings and subsequent dumping of bodies into the river.
