Kwale protesters seen buying vuvuzelas arrested, denied bail
The three were arrested were arrested as they left a supermarket after buying Vuvuzelas to be used in what they termed as a peaceful protest.
Led by activist Sumeiya Omar, the protesters said they were not armed and they were only carrying manila papers, phones and snacks.
She said they were demonstrating against bad governance and poor service delivery by both levels of government.
The three were booked at Diani police sation but their lawyers said no charges have been pressed against them.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Kwale branch, condemned the arrest saying the demonstrators have all rights to picket and petition the government on their grievances.
Advocate Irene Oguna said they visited the station to secure their release on police bond but the police did not grant the request.
Oguna said the protesters were peaceful and the police ought to have protected them instead of arresting them.
"We are demanding that the protesters be released or be given bail. The right thing should be done" Oguna said.
Another advocate, Emma Ogolla said that the LSK will represent all those who are arrested while demonstrating in Kwale.
She said the youth should continue reminding the government that it has to deliver.
