KTB boss June Chepkemei named among Africa’s 50 most influential CEOs

The annual recognition celebrates inspiring and high-performing leaders driving change across the continent.

Chepkemei was selected for her outstanding leadership and transformative role in Kenya’s tourism sector. Since assuming office less than a year ago, she has been credited with championing strategic initiatives to diversify tourism products, promote sustainable practices, and boost destination marketing.

One of the flagship projects includes the 'Ziara Kenya: One Diaspora, One Tourist' campaign, aimed at mobilizing the Kenyan diaspora to promote local tourism.

Chepkemei has also focused on positioning Kenya as a global adventure tourism hub through the establishment of the Kenya Adventure Tourism Product Club, which works with experience owners to market the country’s unique offerings.

“It’s an honor to be listed among Africa’s most influential CEOs. This recognition reflects the incredible work by the KTB team in making Kenya a top travel destination,” said Chepkemei.

She added that she remains committed to enhancing Kenya’s tourism competitiveness and creating opportunities that benefit local communities.

Prior to joining KTB, Chepkemei served as Managing Director at the Kenya Investment Authority and held senior roles at Konza Technopolis and Safaricom. She holds a Master’s in Communication Studies from Moi University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). She is pursuing a PhD in Information Science and is a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya.

Chepkemei’s recognition adds to her growing list of accolades, including Top 25 Women in Digital 2021 and Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya 2023.
