Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto was on Monday put to task by the National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy over the alleged undercharging of revenue from storage of containers.

The MD who appeared before the committee led by Pokot-South MP David Pkosing, was asked to explain the method used in waiving an estimated Ksh.242 million tax on goods held at the port from 2019 to 2020.

Captain Ruto told the Committee that the validation process of tax waivers involves making the requests in writing and was documented in a customer notice highlighting guidelines on the waiver handling procedure.

He added that charges granted to clients also covers storage.

Member of the parliamentary committee tasked the MD to avail a copy of the waiver policy at the meeting.

Other questions probed by the Committee were the Auditor General's claims that the Authority could not fully account for license fees totalling Ksh92.6 Million by close of FY 2019/2020.

The Committee also probed the Auditor General's claims of excess payments for overtime allowances and unclaimed value added input tax.
