KNUT vows to block proposed amendment of TSC Act

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu

The Kenya National Union on Teachers (KNUT) has vowed to ensure that the proposed Amendment Bill of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012 is blocked.

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu says that they have discovered TSC wants to come up with some amendments which will only harm teachers.

He said they have already talked to Members of Parliaments to ensure they shoot down that Bill once it is taken for deliberations in the National Assembly.

Oyuu, who spoke in Rarieda sub-county on Tuesday, cited the amendments to some of the disciplinary regulations for the teachers as harmful clauses.

The KNUT Secretary General added that it is impossible for TSC to single-handedly manage issues of remuneration of teachers, vowing to ensure that the Bill doesn’t see the light of the day.

He also faulted the recent promotion of teachers in the country, noting that TSC hoodwinked Kenyans because it has completely refused to release the full list of the promoted teachers.

Oyuu claimed that TSC numbers of some of the teachers listed in the promotions belong to those who have retired from service.

The union boss further argued that there are many teachers who have been left out of the promotions yet they have stagnated in the same positions for many years and have done several interviews in vain.
