KNUT optimistic about fruitful talks with TSC, SG Oyuu says

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has assured teachers that their negotiation with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is progressing well.

Oyuu, who was speaking in Rongo town, Migori County said union officials have had a number of meetings with TSC. He said they are optimistic that the demands of the teachers will be met by TSC soon.

Among the issues that KNUT is pushing in the talks is the promotion of teachers who have stagnated in one job group for many years.

According to Oyuu, TSC revealed it received only Ksh.1.1B for promotion which is not enough to promote all the teachers who are due.

Oyu said they are pushing for more allocation so that all teachers who are due for promotion can be promoted. He said the promotion of teachers is a major issue in the country that must be addressed by the government in due course.

Meanwhile, the KNUT SG appealed to all stakeholders to support the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). He said the new curriculum is having challenges but can be addressed by all stakeholders, with the funding support from government.
