KNH murder probe hits dead end as DNA results clear prime suspect
The family of Gilbert Kinyua, a patient who was brutally
murdered inside a ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), may have to
wait even longer for answers on what transpired.
Desperate for justice, Kinyua’s family has been moving from
office to office, seeking the truth about their loved one’s killing, so far,
without success.
With no clear leads, they now suspect foul play in the stalled
investigations.
Citizen TV has learned that the probe may have hit a dead end
after DNA tests from a potential suspect returned negative results, raising
further questions about the case.
“So far, there is nothing from the hospital or the DCI which
is comforting,” said Susan Wanjiku, the deceased’s wife.
Kinyua’s life was cut short in the most unimaginable way - inside
a hospital ward where he had sought treatment; a place meant for healing, not
harm. Helpless and confined to his bed, he was slain in cold blood, unable to
move or defend himself.
For over a month, Kinyua’s family has known no peace - endlessly
moving from office to office, searching for answers.
What really happened in the dead of night on February 7, 2025,
when Kinyua took his final breath in his hospital bed? Nurses told
investigators they discovered his lifeless body - his throat slit, blood
everywhere.
A kitchen knife was later found discarded outside the window.
But who did this, and why? Shocking gaps in security have only deepened the
mystery.
Surveillance cameras were not working. The hospital had no
answers. And now, justice feels further away than ever.
“Tuliambiwa tungojee kuna simu tungepata from KNH wakituguide
what to do. On Monday we waited until evening but we didn’t get any call. I
called the hospital, and they told me they had no reports from the DCI,” added Wanjiku.
Blood samples from the crime scene, the murder weapon, and
Kinyua’s wardmate were sent for DNA analysis - the family’s only hope for
justice.
Weeks have passed, yet no answers, no updates. Just silence
from investigators. To Kinyua’s family, this isn’t just a delay - it points to
a cover-up.
“We don’t know what to do as a family, and we have not gotten
any justice...we can't bury him without getting justice,” Wanjiku lamented.
As Kinyua’s family searched for answers in vain, Citizen TV
went further and obtained the DNA results.
Shockingly, the DNA did not match the patient who shared the
ward with Kinyua - the very person investigators had considered a prime
suspect. So, what does this mean? No suspect. No arrests. A case running cold.
With no clear leads, investigators are back to square one,
forced to reevaluate the circumstantial evidence. And if they fail to piece
together the puzzle, sources tell Citizen TV that detectives may have to seek
more answers from the KNH management.
For now, Kinyua’s family prepares to lay him to rest in
Mukurweini, still haunted by unanswered questions and the lingering fear that
justice may never come.
