KNH calls for help to build cancer hostel for needy patients

The Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH) is planning to build a hostel for cancer patients from all over the country but with the help of Kenyans.
In a donation plea to Kenyans, KNH proposed the Ksh. 230million hostel building project that will require a maintenance fund of about the same value.
”KNH is calling upon all people of goodwill to own and support this project by contributing via MPESA Paybill No- 474444, KNH Hope Hostel. A little will go a long way. Let us come together and Give hope a home in Kenya,” read the tweet.
Upon completion, the facility that is to be called the ‘Hope Hostel’ will accommodate 140 patients.
It is to have three floors and host among other things, a day respite area, a cancer resource center, a restaurant and other support services.
According to KNH, the project follows a survey conducted revealing that 30percent of 460 had either missed treatment or experienced delayed service due to lack of accommodations upon arrival in Nairobi.
Other factors that led to the delay of treatment were cited as lack of enough money and transportation to the hospital.
Long queues for one to be attended, being hungry and thirsty throughout the day and not having a place to rest throughout the day also emerged as contributing factors.
Hope Hostel will also offer temporary accommodation to cancer patients undergoing treatment at KNH.
The patients are to be housed for a short term so that they are available for repeat investigations or treatment.
Some of the Kenyans however expressed fear and dissatisfaction over donating the money to the hospital.
