KNEC to commence registration of 2025 KPSEA candidates next week

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will begin registration of learners seeking to sit their 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) examinations next week.

The process will kick off on Monday, January 27, and is expected to run for a month and will be closed on February 28, 2025.

The council CEO David Njengere made the announcement on Saturday as he highlighted the requirements for candidates and their respective institutions.

“Please note that the KNEC Registration portal shall be closed on 28th February, 2025 and there will be no provision for late registration of candidates once the portal is closed. All the relevant process owners and stakeholders, including parents and candidates, must therefore be informed on the need to adhere to the set deadlines,” said Njengere.

The KPSEA learners in Grade 6, the KNEC boss said, would be registered for the assessment again through the KPSEA Registration portal.

He underscored the need to adhere to eligibility of candidates and their respective assessment centres, warning that registration of ghost candidates would result in the de-registration of the school as a KNEC assessment centre.

Schools have therefore been advised to be keen on the biodata of their learners including ensuring correct spelling and order of learners' names, gender, year of birth, and citizenship, all according to their birth certificates.

Eligible KPSEA candidates who have not registered in the Grade 6 portal must first be registered so that they are assigned an assessment number that is used in KPSEA registration.

“Learners without an Assessment Number will not be able to register for KPSEA, since the number will be mandatory. Upon successful assignment of the Assessment Number in the Grade 6 portal, the Heads of Institutions will be enabled to register the candidates,” Mr. Njengere stated.

He also directed heads of institutions to ensure that the mandatory online transfer of candidates concludes before the lapse of the February deadline, saying that no transfers will be allowed thereafter. Further, the transfer process must be done online, to avoid duplication of candidates.

The school heads have also been advised to ensure the School Based Assessment (SBA) scores for Grades 4 and 5 are uploaded, for all candidates registered for KPSEA.

KNEC noted that the government through the Ministry of Education would only foot the Ksh.750 assessment fees for learners in public and private with the exception of non-citizen learners.

Aliens registering for KPSEA or KILEA examinations have been directed to channel their payments through the e-Citizen portal.

The council further noted that only schools with more than five learners will be allowed to register as independent assessment centres and the school heads of the affected institutions have been urged to liaise with their respective Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) to identify approved centres.

“Assessment centres with less than thirty (30) candidates shall be hosted in Assessment centres to be identified by the SCDEs, in line with the guidelines provided by KNEC on the same,” added KNEC boss Njengere.
