The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that it will commence the registration of the 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) candidates on January, 27.

KNEC CEO David Njengere noted on Thursday that the registration portal for the Kenya Junior Education Assessment (KJSEA) will be opened from February 17.

Parents of registering learners are expected to provide their ID numbers to enhance the tracking of learners in the new Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

"I therefore request all Centre Managers to ensure that all their candidates are registered for the subjects they are learning, because there will be NO provisions for erroneous registration," he said.

"Any candidates who will be erroneously registered in 2025 will have no alternative but to defer their examination to 2026."

KNEC projects that KJSEA will be administered to an estimated 1,145,585 learners who were in Grade 8 in 2024 and have now transitioned to Grade 9.

Njengere added that online questionnaires will be sent to the KJSEA candidates through their schools, to get feedback on their interests and personality to form part of the crucial information to guide their placement in Senior Schools.

The first cohort of Grade 6 learners undertook rehearsals for the KPSEA exams in November 2023,

KPSEA is set to replace the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

Njengere further stated that the last KCSE examination will be administered in 2027, urging all those wishing to repeat fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining chances.

KPSEA will be structured as follows;

The subjects to be tested are Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science (I.S) which entails Home Science, Agriculture, Science and Tech, and PHE.

There will also be Creative And Social Sciences (C.A.S.S) which includes Art and Craft, Music, Social Studies, and Religious Education.

In the new curriculum, Composition and Insha will not be tested.

Time duration allocated for the subjects are Mathematics (1hr 20mins) English and Kiswahili (1hr), I.S and C.A.S.S(1hr 40mins).

Only students with special needs will be given extra time.
