Kiunjuri’s TSP says it will only form coalitions post elections
TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri said that they will neither join Azimio La Umoja nor Kenya Kwanza during the electioneering period.
Kiunjuri said they are gauging the country’s two main coalitions and will make the right decision on which one they will align to after the polls.
Speaking after meeting senior leaders of Kikuyu Council of Elders in Nanyuki town on Saturday, the former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary said that it is not a must that TSP joins any political coalition and that they will enter into a coalition with interested and verified partners from August 10 onwards.
Kiunjuri, who is also eyeing for the Laikipia East parliamentary seat, said the party is making proper preparations so as to clinch many political seats during the elections.
He decried that the people of Mt Kenya region have over the years been underrepresented in Parliament.
In 2012, Kiunjuri – the then Public Works Assistant Minister and Laikipia East MP – formed the Grand National Union (GNU) party as its leader, while the late Nderitu Gachagua was its Secretary General.
In 2016, GNU was merged with several other parties to form Jubilee so as to support President Uhuru’s re-election bid ahead of the 2017 polls.
