A Kisumu court has handed a 10-year jail term to a man found guilty of gouging out the eye of his sister-in-law using a pliers following a disagreement early this year in Nyalenda area.

Isaac Onditi, 43, was found guilty of the offense by Winam Law Courts Principal Magistrate Fatuma Rashid in the incident that happened on March 11 this year.

The magistrate, in her ruling, said the accused caused serious injuries to the victim, Janet Awino.

The court was told how the suspect picked up a pair of pliers and assaulted the victim at her business kiosk in Nyalenda.

The court relied on witness testimonies from eight individuals, including the victim’s daughter, all who linked the suspect to the offense.

The court noted that the woman suffered serious injuries on her right eye and dismissed the defense by the accused that he was not guilty.

Onditi had urged the court to pardon him since he was a father to a young family that needed his presence and care, but the court ruled that the offense was grave and deserved the punishment.
