Kisumu: 2 cops among four suspects arrested for attempted robbery
Two police officers are being held at Kisumu central police station on allegations of attempted robbery.
The two officers based at Sawagongo police post in Siaya were part of a four-man gang that reportedly attempted to rob an Asian businessman in Kisumu.
The businessman Pravin Ramji Patel who at his place of work was reportedly accosted by the four who were in silver BMW of registration KBE 420M.
According to reports the gang members had two firearms.
The businessman runs a petrol station at Buoye area on the Kisumu-Nairobi road.
The four did not manage to get any cash during the robbery incident.
DCI officers from Kisumu led by Kisumu County Criminal Investigations Officer assisted by Siaya County Police Command launched an operation which led to the arrest of the two police officers.
One of the suspects- Michael Odhiambo ratted out the details to the police following his arrest.
The officers who have since been identified as Albert Kimutai and Martin Murimi were positively identified before two guns were recovered in a box inside a house they shared in Kisumu.
The clothes they had worn during the attempted robbery and which were captured on CCTV were also recovered.
