Kisii Governor Simba Arati records statement at DCI, claims life in danger
Arati, who recorded a statement at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi in the company of his lawyers Governor James Orengo and senior counsel Otiende Amolo, claims the plot involves searching his homes in Kisii and Nairobi over alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Addressing the media on Monday, Orengo said they had submitted to the DCI headquarters an audio recording capturing Kisii County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) allegedly speaking of a plot to plant guns at Arati’s home.
"We have given a copy of that clip to the police where a CCIO in Kisii is recorded giving instructions and insights into how guns, firearms and other things are going to be planted on governor Arati,” said Orengo.
He added: “Partly this is to make sure that Governor Arati is not given the space to undertake his duties as Governor of Kisii.”
On his part, senior counsel Otiende Amolo said the DCI had promised to take on the matter.
“It is a unique complaint. Governor Arati has lodged a complaint with the DCI against the DCI. They have assured us that there will be action so we wait to see that action because the alternative would be to take the law into our own hands,” he said.
