Kisii family raises alarm after kin went to Homa Bay with friends, but they returned without him
A family in Nyabioto village in Kisii is in agony after their son, a 25-year-old, went missing in February this year.
Erick Maronga left Kisii town together with his colleagues to earn a living at a construction site in Opapo, Homa Bay County, never to return.
Efforts to locate the young man are yet to bear fruit despite reporting to nearly all police stations and medical facilities.
Citizen TV on Saturday morning met the family and residents of Nyabioto village as they made their way back to Mzee James Maronga's homestead - tired and dejected after yet another unsuccessful search for Erick Maronga.
With the pain evident on their faces, the family shared their last moments with the youthful Maronga before he left for Homa Bay.
"Baada ya kutoka hapa walifika huko Opapo kikazi, wenzake walirudi na yeye hakurudi,” said Maronga's brother John Nyakundi.
According to the family, two young men who were last seen with Maronga have been making inconsistent statements about their last encounter with the industrious youth.
"Tumepeleka ripoti hadi polisi, wakashikwa na wakaachiliwa tena. Sisi tunataka tu haki,” said Maronga's mother Teresa Moraa.
"Hatujui mbona hao vijana wasifunguliwe kesi... Iweje waliwahi onekana kwa eneo moja la burudani, alafu kutoka hapo hawajui mahali mwenzao alienda,” Nyakundi added.
The village is seeking answers from authorities about the whereabouts of Maronga.
"Serikali ni kama pia wanatufunika. Sijui sababu hatuna pesa ndio maana tunahangaishwa hivyo. Naenda huko kila asubuhi narudi jioni,” stated Maronga’s father James Maronga.
Tom Mariita, a resident, said; "Wazazi wamepambana kutafuta mtoto. Si tuambiwe ukweli uko wapi, kijiji tunalilia serikali, kama kijana aliuwawa ama iko je..."
As the search for Maronga continues in Kisii, residents and family members are still pleading with security agencies to get to the bottom of this matter, hoping that someday they will reunite with their kin safe and sound.
