Kisii court to visit scene where baby Sagini’s eyes were gouged out
A court sitting in Kisii will on Friday next week
move to baby Sagini’s home at Ikuruma village, Marani sub-county, to conduct a hearing
from the scene including the cross-examination of the Investigating Officer and
one other witness.
This comes after Senior Principal Magistrate
Christine Ogweno ordered that the court be moved to the scene of crime as it
clinches the climax of the hearing proceedings.
Magistrate Ogweno ordered officers at Rioma Police
Station to provide maximum security to the court attendants as well as the
three accused persons involved in the matter.
The Kisii Central Police Station OCS was also ordered
to move the three suspects to Rioma Police Station on the said day to allow them
attend the session.
In the case, three suspects; Alex Ochogo (cousin),
Rael Nyakerario (grandmother) and Pacificah Nyakerario (aunt), are accused of
gouging out Baby Sagini's eyes on December 13, 2022 at Ikuruma Village.
The trio was on January 18 charged with
attempted murder which later changed to causing grievous bodily harm according
to Section 4 of the Penal Code after the prosecution made an application to the
court to amend the charges.
Baby Sagini last week told the Kisii Law Courts that
his grandmother – Rael Nyakerario – is the one who gouged out his eyes.
During the virtual cross-examination on March 10, baby
Sagini, who is under State protection together with his sister, said that his
grandmother gouged out his eyes using her hands and dumped him at a maize
plantation.
