Kisii: 8 men caught on camera assaulting health workers arrested
Police in
Nyamarambe, Kisii County, are holding eight suspects caught on camera
assaulting county health officials last month.
The county Office
of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is set to charge the suspects with
assault, robbery with violence and malicious damage of property of the Nduru
level 4 hospital.
Confirming the
arrests, Kisii County Commander Charles Kases said the suspects are currently
being detained at the Nyamarambe Police Station pending arraignment in court on
Monday.
The arrests
coincide with a dispute between a section of South Mugitango leaders and Kisii Governor
Simba Arati over the alleged transfer of a medical device from Nyamarambe to Nyaribari
Chache, sparking controversy.
Kisii County security
top brass have been on the receiving end from administrators over laxity to
arrest the perpetrators of the unfortunate incident which led to a month-long
closure of the South Mugirango medical facility.
South Mugirango MP
Sylvanus Osoro recently spoke to Citizen TV from London, United Kingdom, and
distanced himself from the current mayhem in Kisii, further urging security
personnel to look into the situation.
Kisii County
Commissioner Tom Anjere has since vowed to bring back normalcy, adding that the
police are under strict instructions to firmly deal with whoever is behind the
alleged incitement of youth - irrespective of their social status.
A number of
mitigating measures have so far been implemented to deal with any kind of
lawlessness, including the heavy deployment of personnel in all level four
hospitals and in chaos-prone areas.
