Kirinyaga woman accuses DCI officers of interference in Ksh.30M fraud case

Drama unfolded outside Wang'uru law courts in Mwea, Kirinyaga after a woman demanded the arrest and arraignment of a suspect in a Ksh.30 million fraud case who has failed to appear before court for plea taking for the last two years.

Jacqueline Christy Akinyi is an interested person in a fraud case where Issadin Gabane Mohamed was to be charged with intent to defraud by obtaining Ksh.30 million falsely pretending he would supply 6000 bags of sugar.

She said that despite the charge sheet being processed and stamped on August 23, 2022, the suspect has never been presented to court for plea taking prompting the court to issue a warrant of arrest which has never been executed.

Akinyi said that she has information that the investigating officers in the case had traced to suspect in Nairobi, but an attempt to arrest him were futile after they received sacking threats from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters.

She accused senior DCI officers at the headquarters of shielding the suspect and thwarting his arrest and prosecution.

Inside the court, the prosecutor had applied for the adjournment of the case telling Principal Magistrate Faith Mutuku that there is an existing order from the Kerugoya High Court halting the proceedings until the high court case is heard and determined.

The accused lawyer told the court that his client was still ill.

The magistrate wondered why the investigating officer who had been tasked with verifying the health of the suspect was not in court.

The case was however adjourned to February 19 for further directions, pending the directions from the proceedings at the high court in Kerugoya.

Outside the court, Akinyi said that she has been coming to the court dutifully for the last two years with hope that the suspect will be presented presented for plea taking noting that fears that she might never get justice.

She has now called upon DCI Director Mohamed Amin to intervene and have his officers stop interfering with the case and shielding the suspect so that he can face the full force of the law.
