Kirinyaga: Man hit, killed by car while crossing Sagana-Karatina highway

The salon vehicle was travelling towards Sagana from Karatina when it struck a man who was crossing the highway there, according to the dual carriage's contractors on the Sagana-Maragua highway.

A man died in a tragic road accident at upper Sagana primary along the busy Sagana-Karatina highway in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, after being struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the highway.

The salon vehicle was travelling towards Sagana from Karatina when it struck a man who was crossing the highway there, according to the dual carriage's contractors on the Sagana-Maragua highway.

'The driver of the vehicle tried very hard to avoid killing the man in vain as he was speeding and rolled  to the  other side of the road before landing into hay grass outside the road.' The road contractor's driver said

According to police, the saloon vehicle had three occupants, two of whom were taken to Sagana sub-county hospital after the vehicle rolled.

"Driver tried two avoid the victim in  vain as we were heading to Nairobi, but for me (sic), I'm okay, but the three have been rushed to Sagana Hospital, one of the  occupants of the Subaru Legacy told Citizen Digital.

Sagana boda boda operators, led by their discipline master Wilson Ndirangu, have expressed concern about the increasing number of crashes on the highway.

'Hardly a week passes without an accident being reported. We want the contractor of this road to erect more sign boards and bumps as he continues  with construction.we are yet to know the victim as  some people are saying he hails from Kiangwaci." Ndirangu said.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Murang'a Hospital's mortuary awaiting identification.'

Meanwhile, the vehicle had been towed to Sagana police station awaiting inspection, according to Ndia sub-county police commander Moses Koskei.
