Kirinyaga: Body of 15-year-old student recovered a week after drowning in river
The body of a 15-year-old
student who tragically drowned in River Nyamindi in Kirinyaga County a week ago was on Thursday
recovered by rescuers, 15 kilometers from where the incident reportedly
occurred.
The deceased, Collins Bundi,
was a Form Two student at Kiaritha Secondary School in Kerugoya. His body was
retrieved by divers hired by his kin.
"We had been camping here
since Friday hoping to retrieve his body, but he has finally been found,”
Charles Muriithi, one of his relatives, told Citizen Digital.
Bundi reportedly drowned while
attempting to drink from the river on Friday last week after riding his bicycle
over a long distance, falling into the raging waters in the process.
He was in the company of one
of his classmates who tried raising alarm but to no avail.
“The boy was seen
riding a bicycle with his friend along the busy Mwea Highway and on
reaching Nyamindi Bridge they decided to drink water and in the process, he fell and drowned,” John Kiama, a Kirinyaga County
firefighter, said.
“Now that we have retrieved
the body, we will start burial preparations,” Muriithi added.
