King Charles III of the United Kingdom has expressed his deepest sympathies to Kenyans killed and affected by the heavy rains recorded in most parts of the country.

In a heartfelt letter to President William Ruto, the monarch, alongside his wife Queen Consort Camilla, conveyed their distress upon learning about the calamitous flooding that has devastated Kenya in recent weeks.

"It was with great concern that my wife and I learnt recently of the terrible flooding that has ravaged Kenya and the region, and which continues to impact so many of your people," said Charles in the letter shared by UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, on X.

"We can only begin to imagine the anguish of those who have lost loved ones and seen their livelihoods devastated.

Charles further acknowledged the role local rescue workers are playing in aiding affected families throughout Kenya.

"Our thoughts are also with those emergency workers and others who are working long hours to support those who have been so dreadfully affected," he said.

The king further  underscored the urgent need for collaborations to combat climate change, emphasizing the escalating unpredictability and severity of weather patterns globally.

"As we discussed during our visit to Kenya last year, the challenge of climate change and biodiversity loss falls to all of us to address at stake is our very quality of life and survival as a world," said King Charles III.

"Remembering with great fondness the welcome we received on my visit last year, and the friendship between our two countries we wanted to send our deepest sympathy and affection to the people of Kenya."

King Charles' message comes as the national death toll from flooding due to heavy rains in Kenya rose to 236 on Tuesday

According to the government least 75 other people are still missing while over 47,000 households have been displaced by the floods countrywide.
