Kindiki enhances security in Meru to counter rise in livestock theft
The decision, according to the Interior CS comes in response to the escalating problem of livestock theft by armed criminals in the region.
During his visit to Theera in Mutuati subcounty, Kindiki emphasized the government's concern regarding the persistent livestock theft in Meru North over the past month.
To address the issue, the CS revealed that security measures have been bolstered in the area, including the commencement of training for an additional 140 National Police Reservists (NPR).
Kindiki also acknowledged the dedication and bravery of security officers who have already recovered a substantial amount of stolen livestock.
“We commend security officers who have diligently and courageously faced the armed criminals and recovered a substantial amount of the stolen livestock. Efforts to recover the remaining livestock are underway,” he stated.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of depoliticizing security operations, warning that any individual, regardless of their political affiliation or influence, found to incite, finance, or plan banditry and livestock rustling will be apprehended and prosecuted.
In addition to the measures, the Interior CS conducted a security strategy meeting with members of the Eastern Regional Security and Intelligence Committee, Meru County officials, Mutuati Sub-county Security and Intelligence teams, as well as local commanders from ASTU, GSU, and other security units.
Back in May 2023, in a bid to combat livestock theft in the region, Kindiki had previously declared the entire Meru North a security zone.
