Kind pupils donate stationery to local pupils of Kerarapon Primary School

Three siblings aged 15, 12 and 10 have demonstrated an act of kindness by donating stationery to pupils at Kerarapon Primary School in Kajiado North, Kajiado County.

The siblings; Sifa Wanyama, Wema Wanyama and Heri Wanyama, who are pupils themselves, rallied their family and colleagues to raise funds for the initiative.

Among the items delivered to the Class 8 and Grade 6 students ahead of their exams include geometrical sets, pencils, pens and rulers.

Sifa, 15, is a candidate herself in this year's exams.

"We want to show them that they are not alone and that they have our support. It also helps to connect with them ahead of our exams," Sifa said.

She added that the move is aimed at sharing with others and especially the less privileged in society and to make them appreciated as they sit for their exams.

On her part, Wema, 12, said the initiative is aimed at helping fellow school children feel appreciated and connecting with their peers from other schools.

"This is just the beginning. I want to encourage fellow students to keep trying even when it looks tough. Let them keep trying," she said.

Their kindness was well received by students and teachers at the school, with school Deputy Headteacher Beth Nyaga welcoming the initiative.

Nyaga said the siblings are a representation of the community that has been supportive to the school.

"They have shown the kids that someone out there is thinking about them and we are very grateful for that. Being a public school we are not used to some of these things. So the kids were so happy," She added.

The siblings also participated in tree planting as part of the school's environment day, with Sifa saying she will be visiting to check on the students.

"I will be coming here to check on them and even the trees we've planted, and even other schools in the area just to ensure I am connecting with the students," she said.

The tree planting exercise brought together stakeholders drawn from different sectors keen on conservation of the environment.

Among them were Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Ministry of Education and members of the community.

Joan Mutugi, a gospel minister and social worker, said the exercise will help impact the children positively and create in them the culture of environmental conservation.

"The way we cannot litter our homes, we cannot leave cans and papers scattered everywhere, is the same way we should conserve our environment," she said.
