Kilifi health officials nabbed with stolen drugs worth Ksh.100K

Drugs and medical equipment stolen from Bamba Public Hospital in Ganze Constituency.

Two officials of the Kilifi County Health Department have been arrested over allegations of stealing drugs and medical equipment from Bamba Public Hospital in Ganze Constituency.

Speaking to journalists, County Executive Committee member for health Peter Mwarogo said the drugs belonging to Bamba Hospital were seized from a private drug store in the area.

”An individual saw drugs being ferried on to a vehicle and raised an alarm where the incident was later reported to the police. The police managed to get hold of the people involved and that’s how a driver and other staff both who are Health department officials were arrested,” Mwarogo said.

According to the CEC health, the police took a quick action to help arrest the two. “We thank the police for a quick action and help us in fighting such incidents”, said Mwarogo.

He added that the drugs are worth Ksh.100,000 and would have been able to serve the people for over a month.

Confirming the incident, Kilifi North Sub-county Police Commander Kenneth Maina praised the public for reporting the incident while the drugs were being transported.

Maina added that the drugs were in a private drug store ready to be sold.

“As the CEC said the drugs were seized from a private store we acted very swiftly and arrested the suspects, for now we can’t give the names until we finish the investigations and on Monday arraign then before the kilifi law courts,”Maina stated.

Maina said the two arrested will be set to arrest other rogue county government officials who have been involved in the theft of government drugs.

They will be arraigned in Kilifi Law Courts on Monday.
