Kilifi courts sentences defilement suspect to life in prison

A Kilifi court sentenced a paedophile to life in prison after finding him guilty of ten counts of defilement, indecent acts against minors, child pornography, and human trafficking.

Principal Magistrate Ivy D. Wasike found Patrick Mbauni Muriithi guilty of sodomising two eleven-year-old male children and filming and photographing the incident with his mobile phone.

The offences were committed on various dates between August 1, 2022, and January 1, 2023.

Muriithi, also known as 'Pat ARC' and 'Daddy', was also accused of recruiting, receiving, and sheltering minors with the intent to sexually exploit them.

He committed the crimes at Mwembe Tayari in the Kisumu Ndogo neighbourhood of Malindi, Kilifi County.

The magistrate sentenced Muriithi to life in prison for defilement and indecent acts on minors, the minimum sentence prescribed by the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

She fined the convict Sh90 million or, in default, sentenced him to 110 years in prison on the other charges, but ordered that the sentences run concurrently, so Muriithi will only serve the life sentence.

The prosecution told the court that the convict used to coach an under-15 football team and recruit minor boys, offering them and some of their family members educational and financial support.

According to the court, the accused person used to live with some of the minors and sexually molest them while recording the defilements/molestations on his mobile phone.
