Kid’s iPad call uncovers murder scene
Authorities say they found a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Breyanna Sotomayor, suffering from stab wounds inside a home at the 8700 block of Tom Noon Avenue on Thursday, January 25.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and homicide detectives took over the investigation.
According to an arrest warrant, one of the woman's three children used an iPad to call their grandmother, who lives in California.
During the call, the child told their grandmother that their mom wouldn't wake up and showed the woman lying on the floor covered in blood. The grandmother then called 911 in California requesting help in Las Vegas and also called her son to respond to the residence.
The warrant listed the three children ages as a 5-year-old and two 6-year-olds.
In an interview with a family member, it was revealed that Sotomayor had recently broken up with her boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old David Perry, and had to move out of her home located near Blue Diamond and Ft. Apache after being evicted.
She rented the Airbnb on Tom Noon Ave for ten days until she could find a new home and requested help from Perry moving in.
Previous court records show Perry was arrested on September 30, 2023, after strangling Sotomayor. The case would be dismissed due to lack of cooperation by Sotomayor and Perry was released from custody.
Footage captured by the Ring camera of the Airbnb showed Perry attempting to leave the residence hours before police responded to the home. In the video, he is seen covering his face with his sweatshirt while attempting to close the door by gripping the doorknob with his bathrobe and leaving with a large white plastic bag.
The last known contact with Sotomayor would be the night before when she was on the phone with a friend from about 9 p.m. to almost midnight. The friend told investigators that she heard Perry in the background arguing with Sotomayor about several things including certain social media posts and the fact that Perry didn't have a job.
In an interview with the children, detectives say the kids positively identified Perry as their mother's boyfriend. According to one of them, he was inside the Airbnb when all three of them went to sleep but when they woke up, he was no longer there and they found their mother unresponsive.
Throughout the night one child reported hearing loud banging noises and their mom yelling but didn't want to leave the room to see what was going on because "it got quiet."
Authorities would later go on to arrest Perry in Kentucky on Wednesday, January 31.
He has since been extradited to Las Vegas and is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
