Kibra youth dismiss links to impeached DP Gachagua after DCI grilling
A section of community leaders from Kibra who
were summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over their alleged
links with impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have now distanced
themselves from the self-proclaimed “truthful man.”
The Kamukunji Pressure Group members now
claim they’re living in fear after the intense interrogation by detectives,
prior to which leaflets bearing their names were spread in the area linking
them with Gachagua.
The leaflets that were on circulation in most corridors
of the slum titled 'Gachagua's Sympathizers' carried the names of those
purported to be impeached DP’s supporters in the area.
Led by John Otieno Millar and David Owino,
the youth urged the security details to unearth those behind the leaflets and establish
their motive.
'”We want to denounce our association with
Gachagua, we were summoned by DCI and interrogated. We expressed ourselves before
them," stated Mr. Otieno.
The leaders wondered how they could be
associated with Gachagua's woes when their loyalty to former Prime Minister Raila
Odinga is unquestionable.
"We can only go to the streets because
of only one person, that is Raila Odinga. No one else can tell us to protest,
and we want the DCI to probe those behind those leaflets," added Mr.
Otieno.
The community leaders were addressing the
press on Wednesday evening at Olympic Centre where they pledged their support
to the broad- based government that was birthed as result of a peace deal
between President William Ruto and Mr. Odinga.
Kibra sub-county commissioner Mohamed Abas
said the grilling of the pressure group members was normal and had no criminal intent.
