Kiambu woman charged with 36 counts of child pornography, indecent acts with minors
A 39-year-old woman in Kikuyu, Kimabu County,
has been arraigned for subjecting minors to sexual abuse through child pornography
and other indecent acts.
Appearing before Kikuyu Law Courts on
Thursday, the woman who runs a daycare faced 36 counts of child pornography,
indecent acts with minors, and child abuse.
According to the Office of the Director of
Public Prosecution (ODPP), the accused is said to have been using children
about 2 years of age to produce pornographic content by making them engage in
sexual intercourse and also touching their private parts indecently.
“The images and videos were discovered by
chance when she misplaced her phone, which was later found, and the person who
found it accessed it in an attempt to trace its owner,” said the ODPP.
During the hearing, the prosecution opposed
her release on bond, citing threats to her own safety since she was nearly
lynched at the time of her arrest.
They also raised concerns of witness
interference and the likelihood of her absconding court, considering the
seriousness of the charges.
The ODPP said the defendant sought to be
supplied the pornographic images and videos to be used in her defence, a
request which the prosecution opposed, stating: “It would amount to further
distribution in furtherance of the offence.”
“The prosecution maintained that the accused
would have reasonable access to the materials in preparation for her defence,”
added the prosecution.
The case was set for mention on November 7,
2024, when the court will deliver a ruling on bail or bond terms after the
presentation of a pre-bail report.
