Kiambu politician Gladys Chania arrested over husband's murder
A
female politician based in Kiambu County has been arrested on suspicion of
murdering her husband, Eng. George Mwangi, who prior to his death worked as a
contractor in Rwanda.
Gladys
Chania, who unsuccessfully vied for Kiambu County's Woman Representative seat
at the August 9th polls, was on Friday arrested by detectives from the
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The
DCI sleuths believe that the deceased, who had returned to Kenya on September
13, 2022, might have been murdered in cold blood owing to the fact that he was
allegedly intimately involved with one Lucy Muthoni, a secretary at a local
school.
The
58-year-old's body was found dumped in Kieni Forest, Kiambu County, on
Wednesday just hours before he was allegedly supposed to fly back to Kigali.
The
body was found wrapped in a polythene bag and covered under a heap of cartons.
According
to the DCI, Chania reported her husband as missing at Mwea Police Post in
Gatundu North on October 11, 2022.
On
Friday, detectives visited the deceased's home in Mang'u, the suspected murder
scene, and recovered some of the weapons believed to have been used to brutally
kill the engineer.
The
DCI stated that the murder weapons were found stashed in the master bedroom.
"The
sleuths have also recovered blood soaked bed sheets, curtains and clothes
hidden in a locked room adjacent to the master bedroom," said the DCI in a
statement.
Police
believe that the victim was murdered in his own home before his body was dumped
three kilometres away from the crime scene.
"Forensic
experts based at the Crime Scene Investigations unit have also detected blood
splatter patterns on the bedroom walls, wardrobe and along the stairway
indicating that the father of three was killed in the house before his
body was dumped kilometres away," said the DCI.
