Police in Kiambu rescued a 38-year old man from being lynched after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman in Githunguri on Tuesday night.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) statement, the suspect, Peter Kariuki waylaid the victim at Nyaga village as she returned home from Kwa Maiko shopping center, and attempted to rape her.

The woman wrestled her way out as she cried for help an act that attracted passer-by who came to her aid and cornered the perpetrator.

“In a matter of minutes before standby police officers from Ngewa station could arrive at the scene, Kariuki had been turned into a punching bag, with responders serving him an overdose of mighty blows and hot slaps to instill some manners,” DCI stated.

The police arrived on time to save Kariuki and he was rushed to Ngewa Health Centre where he was treated and discharged.

DCI further noted that a Lenovo phone belonging to the victim was recovered after searching the suspect.

The suspect is behind bars awaiting arraignment.
