Kiambu MCAs threaten to impeach Governor Wamatangi within 21 days
Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have
given a 21-day ultimatum to Governor Kimani Wamatangi to appoint County
Executive Committee officers or face impeachment.
The MCAs are lamenting that their efforts to
have the Governor constitute an all- inclusive Cabinet have gone unheeded.
They also want Governor Wamatangi to appoint managers
of the six municipalities that they say are now in danger of losing funding to
the tune of Ksh.1.3 billion annually from the World Bank.
Kiganjo MCA Julius Waweru said; “Gavana amerejea kazini na angekuwa ametupa
hayo majina sisi kama County Assembly tupitishe hayo majina. Tunaongea kuhusu Chief
Officers walioacha kazi ambao tunafaa kuwa tumewapitisha hadi wa leo lakini
mwaka umeisha na hatuna Chief Officers katika Kiambu.”
Additionally, the MCAs want the Ethics and
Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) together with the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) to initiate an investigation into how billions of public
funds have been spent under Wamatangi's leadership.
They say they have all reasons to impeach Wamatangi
if he doesn’t conform to their demands.
Paul Macharia, Limuru East Ward MCA, said: “Nataka nihakikishie Wanakenya na hasa
Wanakiambu kwa jumla, Gavana yale matendo amefanya kwa hii county yetu, si
mambo ya kufaidi wanainchi. Ni kupora na tukona grounds zile tutatumia
tuhakikishe Wamatangi ameenda nyumbani.”
“We have issued our
ultimatum to the Governor that if he doesn't shape up, we will proceed and file
a notice motion of impeachment to the County Assembly of Kiambu,” Githiga
Ward MCA Ruth Waithira said.
His Kikuyu
counterpart Kamau Boro added; “We rise to condemn the failure of Governor Wamatangi . Since he took
office in 2022, the Governor has been operating county affairs as a personal
kiosk with little respect as to the importance of County Assembly.”
