Kiambu Governor Wamatangi commissions cabro-making machines

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi commissions a cabro-making machine at Muguga Vocational Training Centre.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has commissioned cabro-making machines at Muguga Vocational Training Centre in Muguga Ward, Kabete Sub-County.
This initiative is part of the county government’s broader
plan to enhance the aesthetics and infrastructure of urban centres by locally
producing cabro paving blocks for roads, streets and walkways.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Wamatangi noted that his
administration is committed to improving the urban landscape while
simultaneously creating job opportunities for the youth.
The county government, he said, will provide raw materials and
engage young people in the production of cabro stones, which will be used in
paving projects across all towns and shopping centres in Kiambu.
“We want to maximise the production of cabro to improve the
appeal of our towns and ensure better infrastructure. Through this initiative,
our youth will have continuous engagement in meaningful economic activities,
creating both employment and skills development opportunities,” Governor
Wamatangi stated.
As an initial step, the cabro stones produced at Muguga
Vocational Training Centre will be used to pave roads and pathways within
Kabete and its neighbouring areas before expanding the project countywide.
Chief Officer for Vocational Training and Social Services Emily
Nkoroi outlined the county government’s long-term vision, revealing plans to
establish cabro-making machines in vocational training centres across all
sub-counties.
She said the programme will not only improve the county’s
infrastructure but also serve as a sustainable source of income for trained
youth.
“In line with our broader development strategy, we are
installing cabro-making machines in selected vocational training institutions
to ensure we have a steady supply of paving materials while empowering young
people with hands-on skills. This project will be a game-changer in urban
development and youth employment,” Ms. Nkoroi stated.
She further confirmed that installation of similar machines is
already underway in Ruiru and Juja, with plans for further expansion to other
sub-counties.
“This initiative aligns with Governor Wamatangi’s vision of
leveraging local resources to enhance urban aesthetics, improve mobility and
provide meaningful employment opportunities for the youth,” said Nkoroi.
