Kericho: Probe as two night guards killed coffee parchment stolen
According to area residents, the attackers are suspected to be coffee parchment thieves who made away with an undisclosed number of bags of dried coffee cherries.
The watchmen were reportedly tied up and hacked on their heads, killing them on the spot.
A witness, who lives near the cooperative society, noticed individuals ferrying bags of coffee parchment from the society’s stores to the main road. He raised the alarm, complaining to management that he had not been informed about the loading job, which he had previously handled.
When the suspects realised they had been seen, they allegedly pursued the witness for nearly a kilometre, apparently intending to harm him.
However, he was able to escape and notify the society's management of the suspicious activities.
Unaware of any authorised loading operations, management rushed to the scene and discovered abandoned bags of coffee parchment, which appeared to have been left behind as the suspects fled.
The manager immediately reported the incident to the Roret Police Station.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the bodies of the two watchmen inside a greenhouse on the cooperative society's property.
The bodies were taken to Kapkatet Police Station, and a manhunt for the suspects was launched. Residents remain in shock as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
