Kenya's COVID-19 positivity rate at 12.5 per cent after 392 cases recorded
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced
that 392 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 3,124 tested
in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 12.5 per cent.
Of the cases, 357 are Kenyans while 35
are foreigners; 204 are females and 188 are males. The youngest case is
that of a one-year-old child and the oldest is 87 years old.
Total confirmed positive cases are now
333,290 with 3,753,920 cumulative tests having been conducted so far.
The infections were distributed across
various counties as follows: Nairobi 169, Nakuru 43, Siaya 27, Kilifi 22,
Kiambu 21, Mombasa 17, Trans Nzoia 12, Murang’a 11, Uasin Gishu 11, Kisumu 9,
Garissa 6, Kericho 6, Kisii 5, Nyamira 5, Tana River 5, Nyeri 4, Kajiado 3,
Kakamega 3, Homa Bay 2, Kwale 2, Laikipia 2, Meru 2, Narok 2, Baringo, Bungoma
and Embu recorded a single case each.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi
Kagwe, 230 patients have recovered from the disease which has claimed no lives
in the past 24 hours; hence cumulative fatalities stand at 5,652.
“There are 128 patients currently admitted in
our health facilities, while 3,809 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care
program," said Kagwe in a statement.
"5 patients are in the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU), of whom 4 are on ventilator support while 1 is on supplemental oxygen.
Another 21 are in the General Wards and are all on supplemental oxygen. No
patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)."
A total of 18,787,525 vaccines have also been
administered across the country, according to Kagwe.
"Of these, 16,747,775 are doses
administered to the adult population (18 years and above). Another 1,532,457
are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 42,380 are below 15
years but above 12 years while 464,913 are booster doses," said Kagwe.
"The total number of vaccines
administered in the last 24 hours is 22,841 while the total number of people
fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 8,929."
