Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru this week lead a Kenyan delegation to CONEXPO – the largest construction expos in the US.

While speaking at a reception at the expo, CS Njeru said there are huge opportunities for Kenyan construction companies to export building products to the US.

"The construction industry has the potential to overtake agriculture and textiles as one of Kenya's biggest exports to the US," said the CS.

Kenya's participation in the expo comes as the Government moves ahead with the Affordable Housing Programme through which it will build 200,000 affordable housing units annually. The Government is encouraging local and foreign investors to partner with the State in constructing affordable housing units.

The CS was accompanied by Public Works Principal Secretary Joel Arumonyang Loremoi and officials of the National Construction Authority (NCA) to the expo that featured the latest developments to technology-based solutions in the construction industry.

The expo followed Njeru’s engagements at the 67th UN Commission on the Status of Women held in New York last week, where the CS spoke on how the digitization and automation of land records can boost the rights of women.
