Kenyans praise Edwin Abonyo as he eulogises his late wife Joyce Laboso
Kenyans on Friday hailed Dr. Edwin Abonyo as he bade goodbye to his wife, the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso.
President Uhuru Kenyatta even termed Dr. Abonyo as the best speaker during the service.
“They say behind every successful man is a woman and I am now beginning to understand that behind every successful woman, there is a man,” the President said.
Dr. Abonyo reminisced about their days in campus: when he would meet with her political counterparts who were still students and later on, how he supported Laboso through her fight with cancer and even when she ran for office.
During the funeral service in Bomet, Dr. Abonyo even took time to thank their drivers who stood by the family even through the tough times.
He described his life partner as a caring mother, non-tribal woman who judged people because of their origin or surname.
Edwin Abonyo: Joyce did not concentrate on a region or a tribe and I think that was the reason why she married me.

Dr. Abonyo who appeared relatively calm through the service further noted that he could have decided against having a funeral service in Bomet because Laboso was married in Kisumu but said ‘silly’ cultural practices have no place in today’s world.
His sister-in-law Judy recognised him for always being at Laboso’s side even when things got hard for them in India.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru echoed the sentiments saying: “Joyce told us that she was luckier than all of us combined and I can agree. You are those husbands who come from heaven…in case you didn’t know, all her conversations were about your love.”
“Edwin was a husband sent from heaven while others come walking,” Waiguru added.
