Kenyan youth urged to embrace the creative economy

The State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, under the leadership of Principal Secretary Ismail Maalim Madey, is actively empowering Kenyan youth through film training initiatives. 

Recognizing the significant potential of the creative industry, the State department aims to equip young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this dynamic sector.

Following a successful nationwide tour, the department recently concluded a series of film capacity-building workshops in Garissa County. 

The one week training programs, conducted in collaboration with the Kenya Film School and the Department of Film Services, have provided over 200 young individuals with essential technical skills in film production, including:

According to Acting Director for Film Services, Regis Ondieki, these training programs address a critical gap in the Kenyan film industry: the lack of skilled technical personnel. By providing specialized training in various aspects of filmmaking, the department aims to:

 * Enhance Film Quality: Improve the overall quality of Kenyan films by ensuring access to skilled professionals.

 * Create Employment Opportunities: Foster a thriving film industry with increased job opportunities for young people.

 * Empower Youth Entrepreneurship: Encourage youth to establish their own businesses in the film sector, such as production companies and post-production studios.

Leveraging the Digital Age

The Principal Secretary Ismail Maalim Madey emphasized the importance of these skills in the digital age, particularly with the increasing monetization of online content.

He stated, the skills obtained coupled with their talent will help the youth put money into their pockets.”
