Former chairman of Kenya National Shipping Line Juvenal Shiundu has been declared a Liveryman of the City of London.

The Liveryman status is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the maritime industry

Shiundu was feted by the Honourable Company of Master Marines, a charitable organisation that works to promote the maritime industry. He was recognized for his dedication to the industry and commitment to the development of the sector in Kenya.

“Mr Shiundu has worked tirelessly to promote the maritime industry in Kenya and to ensure that it is a safe and secure environment for seafarers,’’ noted the organisation.

Shiundu retired in 2019 from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as the director of technical cooperation division. Before that, he was the general manager of Africa Marine and General Engineering firm based in Mombasa.

In December 2019, he was also feted with the Freedom City of London Award for his contribution to international diplomacy and charitable causes.

Shiundu is also credited with the initiative that led to Kenya hosting the first International Maritime Organisation conference in Africa in 2007.
