Kenyan man arrested in Texas for allegedly shooting woman dead

Killeen police reported that John Gitau Mwangi, 42, is suspected to have shot the woman at their residence over domestic violence.

A police report noted that on Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:16 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check at a residence located in the 3300 block of Lakecrest Drive where they found the victim dead.

"The victim was pronounced deceased at 9:29 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James," read the police report while withholding her name until her next of kin is notified.

Two children were also found inside the residence and have been taken to safety.

Robbery-Homicide Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mwangi who was later located at Fort Cavazos, an army post located near Killeen.

Mwangi is currently at the Killeen City Jail awaiting further police actions as investigations are underway.
