A Kenyan mountain climber and his guide went missing on Wednesday during an expedition of Mt. Everest.

Officials from Seven Summit Treks (SST), a mountaineering company based in Kathmandu, Nepal, reportedly lost contact with Cheruiyot Kirui and his Sherpa guide at Bishop Rock, located at an altitude of 8,000 metres.

The mountaineering company's CEO Mingma Sharpa told local authorities that the missing duo attempted to scale the mountain without using supplemental oxygen.

"Kirui, a banker working with KCB, and his Sherpa guide Nawang were last contacted at the Bishop Rock," Sherpa is quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

"Kirui showed an abnormal behaviour with his guide."

SST has since mobilised a search party to look for the duo.
