Kenya, U.S. to co-host creative economy conference to boost talent and innovation

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports Salim Mvurya and U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Marc Billard.

The Kenyan government and the United States of America will jointly host a creative economy conference in Kenya later this year.

The event will bring together creatives from both countries to exchange experiences, foster talent development, drive innovation in the creative sector and film industry, and enhance livelihoods.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports Salim Mvurya, emphasized that this initiative stems from bilateral discussions held during President William Ruto’s state visit to Atlanta, USA, last year.

He reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the creative economy, which has become a vital source of income for many young people in Kenya.

“We are focused on economically empowering creatives and providing opportunities that inspire growth. We look forward to impactful contributions from U.S. creatives during the conference,” CS Mvurya stated after a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Kenya  Marc Billard on Wednesday.

Echoing his sentiments, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya  Marc Billard reaffirmed the United States' commitment to continued collaboration in supporting youth development.

“The youth are our future, and creating opportunities that connect talent, skills, and knowledge between Kenya and the U.S. remains a key objective that we will continue to advance,” he said.

CS Mvurya concluded by affirming that the Kenyan government is fast-tracking policies and legislative frameworks to create an enabling environment for young people to nurture their talents, pursue their passions, and drive innovation in the creative sector.
