The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako has threatened that nurses across the country will join the expected doctor's strike if those responsible for the shooting of Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah will not be arrested.

Addressing the press in Kakamega County on Saturday, Panyako stated that nurses will take action if the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome does not apprehend and take legal action against the officers involved in the incident.

He further called on Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha to address the matter and address the ongoing debacle.

KPMDU's Atellah was shot on February 29 while leading a peaceful procession over the delayed posting of medical interns.

He was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital where he is presently being treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

The KMPDU boss had, in a letter to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander, announced a peaceful protest in Nairobi over the delayed posting of medical interns and the payment of fees for postgraduate students.

The incident was strongly condemned by KMPDU with its National Chairman Dr. Abi Mwachi directing union members to down their tools and converge at Ufungamano House in Nairobi this week at a date to be communicated to chart the way forward on their grievances.
