Kenya has restated its commitment to supporting peace and security efforts in Somalia, emphasizing the importance of defeating Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups for the stability of Eastern Africa.

In a statement from the Office of the Deputy President, Kenya said it remains determined, alongside other troop-contributing countries, to ensure the full realization of peace and security in Somalia through the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The commitment was made during an Extraordinary Summit held at State House, Entebbe, Uganda. The meeting brought together leaders and senior officials from countries contributing troops to AUSSOM, as well as representatives from Somalia.

Among those present were Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Djibouti’s Prime Minister Abdoulkadir Kamil Mohamed, Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and Ethiopia’s Minister of Defence Eng. Aisha Mohammed Mussa.

The summit aimed to forge a united and coherent strategy for the stabilization of Somalia.

Kenya reiterated that it remains committed to supporting AUSSOM’s success and working to disrupt terrorist support networks across the region.
